Hey all, just to summarise quickly before I go into detail to give some context. I'm a trainee accountant that's going for an interview for an Enterprise Ireland graduate position. I'm not sure if it's the right career move (given that I'm intending on pursuing my accountancy qualification whether I take the position or not) and need some advice.

I'm an accountancy graduate. I graduated in 2013 at the tender age of 27 (a bit later than most) and I still haven't registered for my CAP 2 but it's next on my to-do list.

I'm currently doing a Job Bridge internship in a medium/large company in the Northwest and they've given me strong indications that they'd be willing to keep me on in May and pay for my professional exams.

I recently applied to a local enterprise office graduate position and after some online tests and a quick video interview, they've asked me to come down to participate in an assessment centre. I'm in two minds about it. I love the idea of working with SME's, doing industry research and possibly advising them but ultimately I see my career as a qualified accountant and I'm not sure that this would be beneficial in terms of future employability.

I guess I'm just looking for some clarification. Would such a position make me a stronger job candidate in the accounting field in future, 3-4 years down the line? Or would it be seen more as a detour by potential employers?

I know I haven't been offered anything, and there's a strong chance I wouldn't be at all, but from what I hear, the assessment is quite rigorous (written scenario, role play, presentation, various competency tests, etc.) and I find the idea of all that very daunting, needing lots of prep work. I'm not sure I want to spend hours preparing for it if I think it's a step in the wrong direction.
