Was charged Import Fees for Ebay product coming from the UK?

    Hey guys,
On the 9th, I ordered a PS Vita on Ebay.ie. The product was listed in pound sterling, location is Middlesex, UK and shipping here to Ireland. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought there wasn't supposed to be import fees from UK to Ireland, cause we're EU members? The product page says "No additional import charges on delivery.
This item will be sent through the Global Shipping Programme and includes international tracking."

However, just a few minutes prior to writing this, I checked my Paypal and it shows that there was a payment made to Pitney Bowes Ltd to get it through customs, and that the package is, for some reason, being sent through USPS, with a tracking number.

Do you think I should make a complaint, try to get a refund?

Global Shipping Programme means it wasn't in the UK. Wherever its coming from its outside the EU.

You aren't going to be charged anything further when it arrives, but if the price you paid didn't include the GSP payment you need to complain. However, make sure that it wasn't the case that you paid the final price minus the GSP to the seller and then the GSP seperately, albeit in one payment.

In looking in detail on the Pitney Bowes charge on my Paypal, it says Import Charges: £0.00, so I guess I'm safe there. I guess all I have to be pissed about is the fact that apparently the Vita is coming from the US, when the product page has it listed as being in Middlesex. I'll get it eventually, just it'll take a bit longer than I'm used to.

Make sure you leave appropriate feedback for the misrepresentation of item location

Its quite common for Chinese sellers to pass themselves off as UK ones.

Can you post a link to the auction, or similar one from the same seller. People might be able to spot/mention things to check for so you are not stung in future. Usually the negative or neutral feedback will have people indicating its not coming from where they say.

That is actually not correct. Sellers in either the USA or UK are able to offer Global Shipping Program.

    Please see http://pages.ebay.ie/help/buy/shipping-globally.html

In reality even if you buy from a UK seller that participates in Global Shipping Program you won't get charged import duty etc. If you are, than you need to complain but the charges should be visible to you during check-out process.

Yes it makes no sense to have global shipping from UK to Ireland but if the seller has set it up that way than that's that.

The ad clearly states the item is located in UK.

If you are charged extra for delivery from outside EU, I would formally report this seller to Ebay for misrepresentation

This is a total scam. It's bad enough that greedy E bay and Pitney Bowes dreamt this thing up for items purchased from the US but charging it on items being sent from a UK based seller across the sea to Ireland is just plain WRONG. It has happened to me and the seller was definitely based in the UK. I bought a book costing about £2 and paid the seller's regular postage of £3 and then was gobsmacked to find I was also being charged close to £8 for this scam. I complained to the seller who was equally surprised but being reasonable happily cancelled the purchase. I was refunded both the price of the book and the Pitney Bowes thieved monies over Paypal but it was a lot of needless hassle. Another time in the last days I saw another UK based seller whom I wanted to buy something from doing the same and when I explained the situation to her she replied that I must've had a "bad experience" and she wanted to stay with this thing! Jesus, why would a seller want to inflict a charge that is wrong and actually borderline illegal (given that the Global Shipping programme covers customs charges and none apply between EU states) on a customer?? E bay should have this dreadful scheme/scam highlighted at every available opportunity as it's wholly immoral
