    Hi all,

Looking into getting a swim watch. I have looked up several brands including the Garmin Swim, Swimmovate, TomTom and Sunnato.

Im just wondering if anyone has any experience, recommendations.

I am a novice swimmer but swim 5 days a week doing 2-2.5km per day in preparation for open water swimming for the summer. I'm hoping to use the watch as a motivator and lap counter, to track progress etc

I've had a few- all below IMO.

The Garmin Swim is the most accurate lap counter, if you want to let the watch do the work and not hit a button yourself each lap. It's fun to look up the data afterwards on Garmin Connect. If you don't mind hitting a button each lap, get a cheaper lap counter , which will be more accurate.

However! The GS is useless in OW, and I almost guarantee that you will also want to track your OW swims. A watch that does both is the Garmin 910XT, or the 920. If you can afford it, its worth spending the extra for pool and OW metrics.

    Thanks Kurt,

I agree I would want to measure my open water swims more accurately then I am at the moment in the future but wouldn't have the funds to stretch that far as such yet. I am considering the Sunnato which has GPS and is cheaper then the Garmin and is specifically for swimming.

Second vote for the 910XT and they're getting cheap now that the 920 is out. I picked up one a few months ago for 180 only 6 months old.

For the pool in isolation, the Garmin Swim is the best watch currently on the market. An added bonus: you can also wear it as a normal watch because it actually tells the time :)

    Hi there
I have a Garmin Swim and I find it very unreliable for counting lengths - if you pause at all it tends to add them on. I mostly use the stopwatch now and of course its good to be able to tell the time.
