Servicing with main dealer?

I bought a car this time last year from an Opel dealer. It is a 132 model and had just been used as a show model. I had always gotten services done with them for other Opel cars I'd had but couldn't believe what they quoted me to have a scratch repaired a few months ago and am fed up of their high costs!
is it true though that if a car is under warranty you have to get is serviced with the dealer or else warranty is void? I'd nearly go to a different opel garage but that's awkward obviously

    short answer is no.

All non OE parts are made to the same spec as OE stuff covered under iso9002 a fair. Also, block exemption.

Why put yourself in a situation of having to prove you serviced the car properly when a few quid more with the dealer will mean no questions cam be asked. Also if looking for goodwill outside of warranty, a main dealer history is your only hope.

No real point having them quote you for repairing a scratch. Any competent body-shop would do a perfect repair for a fraction of the cost from a main-dealer who would only be sending the car to possibly the same source for the repair, then adding on their cut to your bill.

If the regular service isn't too pricy, I'd consider having them do it for the sake of having a full main dealer service history which will help when selling on your Opel.

Majority of main dealers will not repair bodywork themselves. They contract the work out to a body shop and then add a markup / handling fee.

Go directly to a body shop for best pricing.

Check your warranty for terms like "approved service centres" .
Personally I would stick with main dealer servicing for a car less than four or five years old.
