BMW 320 v Alfa Brera

Have around 5-6k and looking at getting either an Alfa Brera or a BMW E46 320ci.

Which would generally be the better car, i reckon the BMW, but that Alfa is so good looking, much better looking imo. The Alfa is generally better specced, better sound system with aux in, panaromic roof etc. However much harder to find a petrol one (I wont get a diseal). Tax will be same, insurance roughly the same.

What do you think I should go for?

Heart says Alfa all day long.

    But head probably says BMW.

But that Alfa is one seriously good looking car.

The diesel engine is the better engine in the Alfa. Those jts's are horrible.
The 2.2 jts engine also suffers from cam chain stretching.

I do a lot of city driving and im not into all the DPF and EGR issues that come with the the 2.4JTD engine. I rarely would take it out on a motorway to regen it.

if going for the bm, the 325 is the best of them in my opinion, only slightly higher tax than 320 and a decent bit more horse power...

Is it possible to get a Brera over here? Don't recall seeing any available. I'm looking to get a 3 series in a few months but am extremely tempted by the Alfa GT, amazing looking car IMO. Only issue is practicality, i've the Astra H GTC Coupe at the moment and the doors are driving me mad hence looking to change. I'd have to see the GT in person to see what their like before I choose. Good luck with whichever one you go for.

There's doors on the BMW and the Alfa too so I'm not sure they'd suit you :pac:

The Brera is a super looking car, but seven years and three cars later in terms of Alfa ownership, I'd have to say that I'd go for the bm

**** really? DeLorean it is so ha :)

On a serious note, its the size of the doors that are annoying. Problem is parking in crowded places, even if me and the cars on each side of me are parked perfectly its almost always impossible to open the door enough to get out fully. I end up having to do a sort of weird backward step out of the door, hard to describe to be honest. What really made my mind up was my phone falling out of my pocket about a week ago as I did the back step out of the car and scratching it all over.

You'll want a well minded car of either type no matter which one you go for. The E46's have quite a few common issues such as rear springs and subframe a causing issues, along with soft cooling systems. Then again the Alfas have their own problems too with the 2.2JTS often requiring replacement timing chains and sub frames suffering from rust.

Thankfully none of the above problems have happened on my parents cars, a 2010 159 and a 2008 Brera Spider 2.2.

I'd have the Brera all day long. The E46 is too common, along with giving it's fair share of issues, I'd rather fix an Alfa than a BM.... :D

If you wouldn't want this in front of a BMW, there's something wrong with you.;)
