    Hi Folks,

I need some advice. I am changing jobs at present. I'm going from a back office 'we don't care what you're wearing' type of role to a more smart, management & customer facing role. I am in my early 40's and am carrying more weight than I would like, which is a work in progress. So I'm probably size 16, 5ft 6in.

I have, in the past, wore trouser suits, daily in my roles, but I dont' want to spend my days in black trousers/top/jacket.
However my routine is work, gym, home with 3 small kids, so I can't do full on power dressing, even if I knew how.
I will be on my feet a lot in the new role, so I will have to be able to incorporate comfortable shoes, but not flats-because I feel really frumpy as it is with the weight.
    So heres what I'm thinking
Knee length dresses/skirts/dark tights/ Boots or shoes,
Blouses or smart jumpers? Nothing too tight as I'm carrying the weight around my middle.
Anyone any thoughts/advice?? Go easy on me please, I'm nervous enough about this role as it is. P.s budget wise we are talking high st, not brown thomas.
    Thanks a million all.
    Eamor.

Well maybe a mix of high street and bt. ;) I was arguing in another thread and checked COS website after a while. I think they have some well made dresses from good material for reasonable prices. They used to be in BT but now they do have their own shop in Dublin.

Mango is my favourite for blazers and skirts because their tailoring suits me. They are not expensive. If you are ordering online, their sizing is on the small side.

I find Dickins and Jones from HOF handy. They can be a bit more adventurous with patterns but again I think their tailoring is good and handy if you have a few extra pounds.

I think some good quality tights can make great difference. In middle range I think oroblu are good brand. Try also some skin tights, especially for spring.

And congratulations for the promotion/new job. Oh and just to add, all the brands I listed have good length clothing, I am about your height and those brands do offer proper knee length stuff.

Similar role and family here. What you have described is my wardrobe!

Knee length dresses with tights and shoes/boots.
Skirts and tops, with a blazer or smart cardigan.

I get my workwear usually in Zara, and sometimes sales in more expensive places, like BT or Reiss. Fenn Wright Manson, COS in BTs. Zara for white/cream tops, they do loads of them. I've a skirt from Next as well, but I find their tops are not my taste.

Skirts are actually really really handy for work. I find I get way more wear out of them between washes than I do with trousers or dresses. I've 3 pencil skirts (black grey and brown) and they are very versatile.
