    Hi Everyone,

Can any advise if there might be a problem

I received my p60 and it says i paid no tax last year but paid prsi and usc.

There was a charge of 6.81 but that was refunded to me when my employer changed at the end of last year.

I receive credits for personal tax and paye tax but nothing else.

Also during the year i did send in a form 12 and request balancing statements as the year went through and didnt receive anything to say this was wrong but im unsure if its correct as other people paid tax on their p60.

It would depend how much you earned.. If you earned €16500 or less during the year then you wouldn't have paid tax. Do you check your payslips? Did they show tax being deducted?

    hi,

yes i checked, there was no tax deduction bar the one at the end of the year when i switched employers and im on a bit more than the amount you have advised, i find it strange though as i have paid all other taxs like prsi and usc

Looks like there was an error in that case. You should have paid approx 1500 tax for the year. revenue are quite reasonable about paying back under payments, they will generally reduce your tax credits over a year and collect it that way. I would speak to your employer asap so you get it sorted for 2015

Actually do you make payments to a pension?

thats the thing, i had under paid last year but that was to do with my employer and back pay and they have reduced credits this year by 161 to cover it but the only reason i noticed i wasnt paying was that on my first payslip of this year i am now paying tax where as last year i didnt.

There was an error last year where they said i had under paid by 1600 euro but the figured out there was an error as i had one parent cares tax credits and that was taken away in the budget so they assumed i had underpaid but that rwas esolved and they admitted there error.

However now i am paying tax this year when last year i wasnt which is why im confused

also just to note i was paying tax the year of 2013 and before and now in 2015, it seems there was break in the year for some reason which cant be explained, im seriosuly unsure what has happend and fear i may be done for tax evasion or something?

Sounds like you need to speak to whoever is in charge of payroll with your employer. Based on the facts it sounds like they have miscalculated your net pay due and paid you too much, unless you had medical expenses, pension payments or other additional credits during the year.

Just to offer assurance here, there is no way as a Paye worker would ever be charged for tax evasion in an instance like this. There seems to be an error in the employers payroll system and that is their fault, however if you have underpaid tax because of that error the responsibilty to repay falls on you.

Normally in such a situation revenue will reduce your credits by the amount of tax due and thus it will be recouped over the course of 1 tax year, if however that causes hardship, revenue might choose if you ask them, to reduce your credits over a 2 year period.

bit off topic but should someone on an unpaid career break the last 2/3 years and with no other income receive a p60 from their employer for 2014?

yes if the employer hasn't taken you off the payroll and issued you with a P45. A P60 would then have zero figures on it for tax, PRSI, usc, etc.

A P60 with all zero's is really no value to anyone .

Best to login to PAYE Anytime , and have a look at your pay for the last 2/3 years , because this is where you will see the full picture

something has also come to mind, i sent off for balancing statements and such last ocotber, there was an error and they said i underpaid by 1600 or so euro, i then sent in all my payslips for that year for them to investigate and they came back and confirmed their error due to one parent family being removed from fathers, however all these payslips advise that no tax is being paid for that year i.e. it was 0.00 on each payslip and year to date, surely someone would have said something to me if it was wrong when they came back about the other issue?

Sounds to me that as you had a change in your tax credits during the year, your employer either didn't receive an amended tax credits certificate for yourself or did receive one and didn't update their payroll system. Do you recall getting an amended tax credit certificate in 2014 yourself?
