Car Insurance query

I have fully comprehensive car insurance on my car for years. I recently dropped my car into the garage for one day and transferred my car insurance to the garage rental. When I collected my car, I forgot to inform my insurance company straight away that I had my regular car back and during these few hours I was involved in an accident with another car. What is my level of insurance cover? do I have third party?

I assume the arrangement with your insurer was to transfer your policy to the garage for an indefinite period rather than have it automatically transfer back at a specific time (or you drove your own car before that time expired).
Sounds like you had zero cover at the time of the collision. Even if you have 'driving other cars' cover on your policy (which is common) you may not be covered since this protection normally does not apply to vehicles you own.

When you switched insurance over to the rental did you tell them how long it was to stay on the rental as usually a temporary transfer is just that and they need a transfer over and transfer back time.

Being honest lad, the only ones who could answer this is your insurance company. If the policy was still on the rental at the time of the accident while driving your own car then you could be in a spot of bother. They may still cover the other party's claim but you may well have to sort out your own car yourself. But I'm only guessing here so really you need to contact your insurance company about it. Rotten luck all the same.

I transferred it for a period of a week as I didn't know how long it was in the garage for.

The accident was a tip really. Someone backed into me. My car was stopped in a car park but not in a parking space.

Small scratch damage to both cars

Would the guards consider this driving without insurance?

Gardai do not need to be involved in minor damage only bumps and by the sounds of it the other driver caused the bump which leaves him/her liable for your damage. Doesn't matter if you were in a marked parking bay or not. In general if you're standing still and not causing a dangerous obstruction you can not cause collisions.

Even if one like this came to the district court I reckon the judge could take a rather benign view on the insurance issue.

The other driver thought I had blocked their path and so it was my fault. Were adamant about that but they had plenty of room. They just kept coming

The orbs in the frontal cavities of his skull are called eyes. Human Mark I manual says the following: to be used to enhance general awareness of surroundings, more specific visual observation of the immediate surroundings and extremely useful to facilitate negotiating of obstacles.

Performance can be enhanced with optical devices called specs and contacts. Although nerve link up to the brain and optical performance can be near perfect cognitive data processing abilities can be subject to individual differences

Good news. I have 3rd party cover for that day from the insurance company. Will sort out my own car. Nothing major at all.

    Thanks for your help

What? OK great that you were legally insured, but DO NOT let that eijet away with damaging your car. There is no excuse for it. Even if your car had been blocking the other car in, it is the fault of the car in motion. As above, a stationary vehicle does not cause a collision. Get your insurance company to deal with it if necessary. If you pay your own damage, it may look suspect if/when the other driver attempts to claim. Do it properly or pay the price.

Well my own damage can be fixed with a small jar of 'touch up' paint I have. Just a couple of surface scratches. I'll leave it for a while before I do.

No word from the other party and they probably wont claim

Based on what you have said it should probably be you claiming from them.
