Ok time to upgrade have a budget of €10000 plus my Toyota avensis 04 worth €1500 as a trade.
My driving everyday I drive 50km to and from work so that's 100km it's approx 40km of that being motorway each way.
Im inclined to buy diesel for what I drive as I also drive more then for within working hours.
Would like a 09 or above and need space hence why I had the avensis was looking at a Qashquai but it sold yesterday
    any suggestions

I don't think the Qashqai is really that spacious, it's really a medium sized hatchback beefed up to look like a SUV. Interior space is average as is the boot size.

Also I'd sell the Avensis privately, it's probably too old for the bigger dealers to resale on their forecourt and I reckon you will do better than €1500 selling it privately. That also allows you to negotiate a better discount off the price of the newer car.

I agree with the Qashqui went to view one yesterday.
Don't think I would get much more for my car, it has no nct, needs a new cat converter and has 270,000km for a petrol

Even if you got €1k for it privately, it's still cheaper to buy the new car with no trade-in. And you will have an extra €1k or so from the sale of the Avensis to put towards the price of the newer car.

All the dealer is doing is taking the discount off the newer car and giving it to as the trade-in price of your old Avensis. You would probably get the same €1500 off the newer car if you were buying with no old car to trade in. Of course the downside of selling a cheap car privately is that you will attract messers who will still offer you next to nothing for it no matter how cheap it is.

How about a Seat Exeo. Its basically an Audi A4 with a slightly different front and back and a different interior. Its the interior out of the Audi A4 open top. Its quite nice too. You should be able to get it with a 1.9tdi or 2.0 tdi engine.
You could also look at a Skoda Octavia or a Superb or maybe a Citroen C5 with a 1.6 HDI which is a very nice car too. You have loads of choice. Thats just a few options there is loads more.

Not to keen on the interior of the exeo, have been looking at the superb which I like but can't find one in price range with mileage to suit,
looking at Insignia, Superb, Avensis and Mazda3 just need to either sell my avensis or trade it against it at the right price.

Just note that the Exeo is basically a 15 year old design now, they are quite cramped compared to more modern designs.

Herself has a C5 with the 1.6 HDi and being honest should have gone for the 2.0 (harder to find I know). It's a big, heavy car and feels very slow at times.

Also, the exeo didn't come in 1.9.

Drove a C5 on rental, promised myself I would never drive one again.

What about a Laguna, I know they are gone off the market now but there is some good value in used ones. The Laguna III is fairly good on the reliability front too.

I agree with the Laguna III. They are a very classy and stylish car. The Laguna I11 has been very reliable too very few reported problems compared to the Laguna II. That Dynamique spec one looks really good too and nice in silver. Its great value too.
