The school sent home a form to be filled out for the Dept of Education's new database system. It says its to keep track of numbers, performance, etc but it requests my kid's pps number. Can anyone say what the pps number has to do with any of this?
Please nobody mention Irish Water in your reply!I'm just curious as to this aspect of the form and if I should include the details.I assume every primary school child who they want on the new database has received this.
    Thanks.

    Hi there,
Well every child accessing the free pre school year would submit PPS number and every student going forward for examination at second level would also have to submit same so I guess they are just bringing primary sector in to line too. Don't have any explanation as to why apart from fact that Dept have told us their plan is to allocate funding/teachers/etc to schools in future according to the numbers of pupils they have on database. If you have a look on education.ie and click on the parents tab, scroll down the page and click on Primary Online Database and you'll find far more indepth answer. By the way, you can return the form with just the child's mother's maiden name and that will do instead of submitting PPS if you'd prefer not to. HTH
