Connecting Vodafone 975 to computer

    Hi Guys,
I need to root a Vodafone 975 (Smart 3) to upgrade the ROM. I tried an on-device method called Framaroot. When I ran this, the message said that it was successful, but a root checker says it's not rooted. I could probably root it with Flash Tools utility, but I can't get it to connect to the computer.

I have installed any and all ADB drivers I can find, but no luck getting the PC to 'see' the phone.

    Any thoughts or ideas?

stating the obvious but did you enable developer optics?

I'm no expert in this, but I have rooted a previous phone and installed clockworkmod and a new ROM. I'm just stuck at this point.

I'm not familiar with the term developer optics. If you mean the developer area of the phone, this is enabled and USB debugging is connected.

Just to clarify... the phone shows in my device manager, but when I run the command adb devices from the command prompt, it says no devices connected.

    Developer Options.

You need to go into Settings, scroll down to About Phone, and tap on Build Number about 7 times until it says Developer mode enabled.

The Android version is 4.1.1 so I don't need to do anything to see developer options. It is enabled and, within it, USB debugging mode is enabled. The phone goes into debugging mode when I plug it into the PC.

Okay, I'm at my wits end with this.

The phone shows up in the list of devices connected to USB. But it still won't appear when I run the command 'adb devices'.

I've nailed it down to the windows driver. I've downloaded loads of different drivers from the web, but the computer will only install the one windows gets from windows update, which is 'Alcatel Android ADB Interface'. The only way I can stop this driver from being used is to delete it from the computer and disconnect from the internet. Then I'm told there are no drivers on my computer for this device.

    I've tried: 'All MTK drivers'
    'mtk 65xx usb vcom drivers'
    'usb_driver'

I've tried the drivers in android sdk.

The funny thing is: when I go to install these as drivers for the phone, the system doesn't recognise the driver files. They are all unzipped to folders and when I direct windows to the folder it says there in no driver there for my device.

    Help! :o

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, but I did try it on a laptop with Windows 8.1 and it was even worse. I couldn't get it to install ANY driver for the phone. I'll try an XP machine tomorrow.

I was taking one step at a time. Cyanogenmod would have been my first port of call.

At this rate, I'll probably bounce the phone off the wall and upgrade the ROM by buying a new phone. :o
