Planting trees in half acre plot

    Hello all,

I'm wondering if the good folk on here can answer a planting query for me.

As background, I'm own half an acre of marshy land in Waterford which I wish to plant with trees. I've rang a few people down there (I'm based in Dublin) who have nurseries but no one is interested in taking it for this purpose.

My question is to know if there's any way that any forestry company would deal with such a small site or would I have to do all the work myself? I don't wish to rent the land for cattle/horses as it would be hassle for a number of reasons and I'm trying to get some use out of the land without any great effort on my part.

    Thanks in advance,

    C

It's probably too small to get a grant so the forestry companies might not be interested,

You could plough it with a small (1 or 2 furrows) plough every 2m and then plant along the ploughed lines every 2m, this would take about 500 trees for half an acre. What types of tree are you thinking of?

Have a look on coillte web site for minimum site size

The trees I would plant would depend on the soil which I would need to get tested.

However management of the site and everything involved is a route that I'ld rather not go down as I rarely have the time to get down there.
