    Hi,

Tap left on in the shower room (first floor) and water over the floor, down through the ceiling below and out through the light socket. Area about 3m2 affected.

The water has stopped coming down and I guess it will dry out in time. Already smells damp. I think there may be rock wool in between the joists.

    The Question is:

Any idea how long before it dries out and I can paint the ceiling?
Weeks, months, until it smells no more, never?

    Thanks

It'll dry in time. Assuming that the board integrity is OK, i.e not sagging, I'd be inclined to give it 2 weeks. Keep heating on to assist with this process. Once dry, the stain on the plasterboard ceiling will remain. This will need to be coated with stain-stop and allowed to dry overnight( If you apply just regular emulsion, the mark will re-appear ) Apply a vinyl matt ceiling paint coating after that ( or 2 if necessary ) and that should be it.

Rock wool / Fiberglass will not dry out it will remain damp for months and smell for ever it should be removed and replaced
