Surely she is in Crumlin, so her medical needs are being met to that extent.

And then we have huge numbers who hold medical cards but don't need them and can most definitely afford not to have them.

Or hold them for their daily fix of methodone or whatever else their addicted to.

It's wrong on so many levels.

This child did receive a medical card in the end

She was entitled to one, but bureaucracy f*cks up from time to time.

According to the linked story the heartless bastards rejected the mother's application yet again! I really wish more in the political scene and public service who adjudicate on these cases were to have first hand knowledge of the pain and heartache people endure on a daily basis because of their poor decisions!

I'm sure they do feel for them , but it's the penny pinching bureaucrats that feck everything up.

It is them who I want to feel the worst of the pain they are causing!

No she didn't, her appeal was rejected by the HSE.

Common sense must prevail in these rare situations and the girl should be given a card. Evidently the beurocratic HSE lacks common sense as we all know.

You don't stay in Crumlin full time during treatment . There's 3 weeks between chemo if your having in intravenously . A lot of kids get it on the day ward & then go home. There's about 160 kids on the books for 20 beds in the Oncology ward. So drugs , doctors , wigs and any medical aids are up to the parents to pay. Some covered under DPDS , some not. All covered if you have a medical card, but only for the duration of treatment . if extra treatment is needed then the child must reapply. There isn't the room to treat all kids in Crumlin as its has to take kids from the whole country.

If they don't need their cards then presumably they aren't costing the scheme much. And the methadone scheme is not paid for by the medical card, it's budgeted separately. Moreover, it's a dangerous area to get into treating disease based on how 'worthy' the sick are

When I say need i mean they can afford to pay their own medical bills.
