O2 Mondeo failed NCT on emissions

    Enging Oil Temp 82C
    Low idle CO 0.09 vol% above 0.50
    (700rpm) HC 114 ppm above 0 = fail

High Idle Lambda 1.00 not between 0.97 and 1.03
    (2910rpm) CO 1.03 vol% above 0.30 = fail
    HC 289 ppm above 200 = fail

Also burning oil, more so this last few months - up to 1 litre/500 miles.
Was already dosed with dipethane and ran on motorway.

May have a look at the oil separator, but don't fancy rebuild rings/stem seals.
So is this terminal or what does anyone recommend?

High carbon monoxide is likely a failing catalyst.
Burning a litre of oil, essentially between fills, is very bad for the catalytic converter. Those Mondeos are naturally big oil burners as time goes on.

Unfortunately... They also have a habit of breaking their swirl flaps within the inlet manifold and sucking in the metal rod, doing a lot of engine damage. Typically the head is removed and skimmed, busted valves replaced, damaged pistons ignored and everything is put back together and put on sale on Done Deal/Adverts. Good for another 40,000 or so miles before the damaged pistons become cracked pistons and the engine is rendered unusable. In my direct experience this has been done at least four times, I've heard of it many more. :(

I'd have a good look through any service history you can get on the ca, if any.
