Honda Jazz, if you could get one within your budget, or alternatively, a Toyota Yaris.

    thanks for the replys guys...

had a look at a 2002 toyota corolla with 170k miles for 2.5k with a 6 month garantee from a local garage today.
    is that good ?
    cheers

What's covered under the guarantee? I just cannot see how a dealer could stand over such a low costing 13 year old car for 6 months. Cars of this age and value from garages tend to not have much in the way of warranty or comeback as the profit on them is small as it is. There is usually better value in private sales in this price range.

he didnt say .. just 6 month garantee and free service for next ntc...
that was all he said... what should i ask him to include in it?

    thanks

Ask him what is covered and if there is a mileage limitation. I'd be very surprised if much was covered, maybe just the engine and even at that it could be taxing getting them to sort stuff afterwards. As I said there is not much profit in giving a 6 month warranty on a €2.5k 13 year old car. On most stuff of that age he would be broke.

Do you know anyone who has dealt with the garage before, could give you an insight into whether the warranty is worth the paper it's written on or not?

hi thanks again for the reply
my gf's mother knows him somehow (not very well from what I gather, he owns a house up the road from her)
do you think it will be in and out of the garage with problems and will cost him too much at that price?

    thanks

I don't know the car or the guy selling it but I'm just trying to think what sort of profit this guy can make offering a 6 month warranty on a car of that age and value. I can only assume he has low overheads and probably operates from this place of residence. You really do not know who good his warranty is until you have to go back to him with a problem.
