    Hey

Sorry if discussed before but for life can't find on web. Wife has 09 Golf, 2.0Ltr diesel. We are looking to sell because she wants to get something bigger(2 kid on way).

In with garage the other day and he was knocking price way down because the timing belt/chain needed to be replace. Now I used to have Passat and I thought on the new models it wasn't till 100k Miles the timing belt/chain needed to be replaced. There is currently 109k km on the clock.

Just wondering when the timing belt needs to be changed on these cars? I would guess it is only about €500 for garage to change?

Also just looking for idea of car value, Donedeal/carzone etc seem to be all over the place...details below

2009 Volkswagen Golf GOLF COMFORT 2.0 TDI MANUAL 5SPEED 5DR 110HP, Diesel, Cruise Control, air conditioning, bleutooth car kit

    thanks:p

See what similar models are going for. Being a garage it won't cost them mega money to do the timing chain since they won't be passing labour charges onto you. The mechanic will get his hourly rate of pay and the chain will be done.

Tell him to feck off and make a proper offer if you feel after comparing prices online or whatever their trade price is unreasonable.
I was gonna trade in my 141 Octavia for a 151 but I didn't do it since I would get more selling privately. Ive decided to keep it for another year anyways.

Timing belt change intervals aren't just limited to mileage, they're also recommended at timed intervals, usually 4 or 5 years as the belts rubber perishes and makes it more liable to snapping. VW currently have an offer of a belt change for €370 in their dealerships which is about as cheap as you'll get, plus you get the VW stamp in your book which makes for a slightly better bargaining position.

€370 is reasonable for a main dealer...

Oh I know what I am looking for and told him where to go. Started all this waffle about extra's like cruise control don't add value ot car, 5 mins earlier he had been telling me the new car was great value because of the extra with it like cruise control :confused::confused:

To be honest we would keep if we could, I love driving it and so does my wife but with the little one in her car seat we are nearly sitting on the dashboard, very small space to back seats....it is very quick and very nice to drive....

Thanks, but wondering as well just so I do have some ammo what is the normal mileage/km before you have to change?

On those CR diesel engines the timing belt interval is 100k miles or 5 years afaik. That is what it was at least on my previous Passat CC 2.0 TDi 140bhp.

Every 48 months if I'm not mistaken, so it's due if it hasn't been done before.

2 kids wont fit in a golf?
How big are the children? I've had 5 adults in my golf before without issue.

Try put in Axiss car seat and put a kid in it, there feet are crushed if you have the seat anyway back at all....so in passenger seat you are up against the dash

I like my comfort and space so not going to try and squeeze into a car:D

I have regularly had the front seats back, and two child seats in the back of my golf and no issue.

Just checked on donedeal there, they are asking for 11-13k depending on spec.
So..... no! lol, especially as it wouldnt give me an mpg improvement on my 6spd mk4

As stated it would be due with respect to time. Every 5 years it would be due.

Your best option OP is to get the belt done, and sell it privately. It's a diesel golf, you might as well be selling crack on O'Connell St you'll have so much interest in it.

Exactly what I would have thought too.

I was quite surprised at how much room baby/child seats take up. I can easily fit 2 adults in the back without adjusting the drivers seat. Chuck twins in the back with their child seats, and the two of us upfront could lick the dash out seats have to be that far forward to not squash their legs.

Exactly the issue, I was really surprised when I seen it.....little one kicks off as well if she doesn't have room for her feet.....

might try it, going to get a valet done at weekend and fire it up. Don't think I am getting value off dealers but they are all still mad to take it off my hands. I guess they know they will have no issues moving it on:P

What is best website at the moment for car selling? adverts? donedeal? carzone?

    Throw it up on donedeal
It's a cheap tax vw diesel, as mentioned, in this country it'll sell quicker than beer on easter thursday

A friend had the same problem with an audi a4. her husband is very tall..
Whatever car you try make sure it you try the car seats out before buying.
I told another friend about the A4 problem. He told me there was 7 in his family 5 kids and 2 adults and his father went out and bought an effen starlet

I bought an 11 Passat 2.0TDi and the timing belt change recommended for the car is somewhere around the 210km or 5 years . Not sure what VW has done because my old 1.9 golf was on the 100/110km mark, to get that high mileage out of the belts.

But review the owners manual in your car if you have one and that should tell you or ring another dealer and ask them what is the correct mileage for timing belt change.

Just wondering, I guess the car is Mk5?

The Mk6 had the new 1.6 Tdi etc? again I guess?

Yours is a mk6 but has the 2.0tdi engine that was used while they were waiting on the 1.6tdi to come out. The mk5 was 1.9tdi mainly replaced by mk6 110bhp 2.0tdi which was replaced in early 2010 on the mk6 by the 1.6tdi 105bhp.

Adults don't need to sit in child seats that take up a lot of room in the back seats.

Neither do you need to carry around buggies/prams around with adults.

I'd drop the bit about the electric pack, just mention electric windows all round. I'd also drop the bit about the immobilizer, every car has an immobilizer fitted since the 1990s.

Will do, just pulled spec from a website :-)

Not that easy to sell, have dropped the price to 10,250, at this rate would be simpler just to trade in

The 10k mark would be about right for it pricewise it's just a matter of waiting for a buyer now.
