Scrap or sell?

    Hi all.

I'm getting rid of my 01 Peugeot 206 1.1 and not sure whether to scrap it or sell it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Mechanic recently told me the master cyclinder was gone - very little braking power, pedal on the floor and red brake warning light on dashboard. There's also an orange engine indicator light showing on the dashboard, not sure what that's about. Also some minor scratches on the rear and 4 unsightly, corroded spots on the roof (I didn't realise bird poo was corrosive!) Also, the plastic covering over one back light is broken. Oh almost forgot, came home yesterday to a flat tyre, even though it's been parked up for over a week. I don't want to put any money into it - Reckon I'd get much for it as is?

well it is scrap. but your best bet is to sell, realistically its only worth a couple of hundred euro

Id be personally slow enough to sell something with dodgy brakes. As although buyers have no come back they do when the car is sold as dangerous. The way Id look at it is what if someone buys it of you drives it off and crashes into someone down the road and then blames you for selling a dangerous car to them. Now maybe I'm completly wrong and I suppose If someone collected it with a trailer then that should be ok. Either way it's not going to be worth a whole lot and scraping it would be the easier option.

it might be easier but he will get nothing for it. also if your putting in an add you just say brakes need work. cant see any comeback from that. also changing the master cylinder cant be a very big job

Anyone that has to come with a trailer to collect the car to fix it up isn't going to give a whole lot either especially if there is other issues and the rust would have to be fixed. No one that's going to fix it up to sell it on will give huge money if it needs all that to be NCTed and even in good condition with an nct it's probably only worth 1k. So based on that I couldn't see anyone giving more than 200 euro for it.

Thanks for the replies. I'm in Dublin - South City centre, if that's any good. In fairness, wouldn't dream of selling it without being honest about the brakes.

There nothing wrong with selling the way it is as long the seller notifies the buyer. Replacing the mc on a 106 wouldn't be that complicated a job.
