External hard drive not recognised

    Hi
Not sure if I'm posting this on the right section but here goes.
I have an old Medion External Hard Drive probably 4 maybe 5 years ago.
When I plug it in it lights up but my laptop doesn't seem to recognise it as
it doesn't appear as a new drive on my laptop.
Anyone got any ideas? Someone in work said that it could be that it's too old so not compatible. Is that the case does anyone think?

Does it work in another computer?

I have no idea as I don't have another computer to check it on. However I put usb drives & my newer external hard drive into my laptop & they all work no problem.

The drive could be dead, you'd want another PC to check

Does the drive show up in Disk Management?
Or there may be a problem with a driver, check Device Manager under Disk Drives for a yellow exclamation mark
