Someone may be able to answer this for me
I recently came across a 1984 motorcycle that was never registered and only used for off road racing for one year only
It is bought new Ireland at the time
VRT should have paid at that time, my question now is what steps should I take to get a reg plate for this ,is it possible ,there is no documentation with this bike but all frame and engine numbers are there
I have cleared bikes before but not on the new system with NCT etc
    Thanks

Get a letter from the manufacturer confirming age.

    Pay zero as it's over 30. :D

You will need a letter from a motor cycle dealer or a vintage club giving all details of the bike, it's best to go down the lost reg. and number route.
    Plus.
    Makey up receipt.
    Photo Id.
Recent Utility bill for proof of address.
    Proof of PPS no..
There's two form to fill out.
An appointment for NCT/VRT only takes a few days.

You will also need an EU certificate of conformity or IVA cert.

VRT only arrived in 1992, when the Single European Market meant import duties were no longer allowed - if the bike was sold in Ireland before '92, the duty would have been paid on import, rather than registration* - not sure if that would mean that VRT would not be payable now, but worth noting in case it helps...

*which is why every car bought from around September on, went around with "For Reg" on the back - the duty was already paid, and you could wait until January and register it "a whole year later".
