Depends where you want to get a job and what you want to get a job at. There are loads of jobs in the financial services industry or IT in Dublin for example, but if you want something in Mayo you're flat out of luck.

It's all very well blaming the foreigners but last time I looked there ain't many of 'em in the Dáil!

Depends on what kind of jobs you're talking about. IT, accountancy, financial services are all crying out for people.

Dublin is good. I work in construction as a PM, kept going through the rough times. Have on average an agent a week ringing me since late last year.

If you are looking for work in a STEM field and live in an urban area; there are a lot of opportunities. Plenty of jobs available in the hospitality sector too, which will only increase as we come closer to Saint Patricks day and the tourist season.

Starting to see more and more jobs coming on line but mostly minimum/low wage. Outside the main urban centres it just seems to be nothing but jobsbridge and ce schemes.

I was made redundant just over 2 years ago. Unfortunately the only real experience (15 years) I have is in general office work and now it appears to me that all jobs in this area seem to be Jobsbridge or aimed at someone straight out of school. In the last 2 years I have applied for over 50 jobs that I would be well able to do and had the grand total of 3 interviews.

Sorry to hear that. You have tried retraining?

I'm in Monaghan so there isn't a great deal of choice when it comes to courses. I did an IT course last year that got me CompTIA A+ and Network + as well as MTA Server and Security Fundamentals. It was a really great course but there isn't much call for these skills round here. I've now signed up for a Java Developer course that is quickly driving me insane. I'd much rather do a course in beating up Social Welfare employees.

Very interesting thread. I left Ireland and work in financial services. Would like to move back at some point, but would like to wait for a bit more improvement to feel safer about it first.
