payment method of illness benefit

Bit of a funny situation, wondering how to approach this.

I am out of work since June and was receiving illness benefit through my employer. initially my illness benefit was topped up to 100% of my wages, then 50% inline with my HR sick leave guidelines (state empoyed)

In November I had exhausted all my entitlements and was reveiving just my illness benefit. I am paid weekly so I used to get the illness benefit every friday. However, in the run up to Christmas our wages are processed weeks in advance and as a result, they had not recieved my illness benefit on the date the wages were being processed (at the start of december), and therefore I was going to be without my benefit for the whole month of christmas. HR advised me I could change the payment method with SW and have them pay me directly and change it back in the new year.

So that worked out ok, but then I realised that if I changed it back to being paid through my employer, then I would be without my payment for one week (because of the way the payroll is set up) and advised HR that I wanted to recieve my benefit directly. They advised me that I couldnt do that and that I had to change it back, and said that someone had misinformed me , that I shouldnt have changed it in the first place. I never changed it back, I cannot be without a benefit payment for a week. it is not an option.

So now I rang social welfare this morning about something different and the person I was speaking with has mentioned that my payment method has been changed back to my employer. I did not contact them and change it and the person I spoke to couldnt tell me who authorised it to be changed. can anyone tell me if my employer is allowed to do that? I dont see how it matters, they are not paying me anything extra, it just means my payment is processed through them. dont see what the big deal is. has anyone any knowledge if my employer is allowed to change the method of payment themselves? also, from looking at citizens information, my employer is allowed to ask me to get paid through them if they are paying me sick pay, but they are not anymore! not really sure how i am going to get through this week as I am not receiving any benefit.
