Hot tap makes a banging sound

    Hi,

The kitchen hot tap has started acting up. You can turn it on to a slow drizzle OK, but once you open up the tap much further, a banging sound starts, and the water stops and starts coming out, or sometimes stops altogether.

It's a pumped water system, but this happens even with the pump turned off. I isolated the supply to the tap, and took it apart but saw nothing. I tried briefly turning the supply back on with the tap disassembled, and the same thing happened, so I don't think it's the tap itself.

All other household taps are OK.

Any idea on likely cause? Is there anything else I can try before calling in a plumber?

    Thanks,

    Peter.
