For the weekend or get sterling cash from them? I assume my card will withdraw cash over there without any issues ?

Yes your daily limit here should apply over there, around €600 so about £440 odd.

It only takes a couple of minutes to ring them. Ever since my cards were both refused at a hotel in the UK (very embarrassing) I always ring them when I'm leaving the country.

You should definitely ring as the bank can freeze your card if unusual activity is noticed on it.

What counts as 'unusual' depends on your previous spending and travel patterns though I guess the fact that the OP is asking the question in the first place suggests that (s)he's not in and out of the country every day so it's probably advisable that (s)he tells them.

OP, stick to ATMs in banks and airports, they don't have as many free ATMs in the UK as we do so you're likely to be charged extra if you use it at a convenience store or coffee shop. And check your bank's website for the charges for international withdrawals, if there is a minimum charge per withdrawal, it means you need to avoid taking out lots of small amounts.
