I am replacing the front pads on my car this weekend, and I've priced a few different brands from various websites. If anyone has any experience of the following brands, please let me know.
    Fremax: €28
    Mintex: €55
    A.B.S: €65
    Bosch: €61
    Brembo: €100

I'd be inclined to stay away from Fremax solely based on the price, but I could be wrong

Freemax worked fine for me but they are VERY dusty. Will ruin alloy wheels if you have them. You'll probably end up changing em fairly soon too so if you can afford the better ones go for them, but if moneys tight the cheap ones will work grand

Thanks for the replies. I'd rather stay away from the Fremax if they're going to cake the alloys in dust.

Anything from the Mintex up should be fine. I tend to stick to Mintex, Ferrodo or Pagid. The Brembo pads are just rebranded Pagid pads.

I didn't realize that about Brembo. Is it the same story with their discs? I'm replacing the discs too, which are Brembos costing €157 delivered. I haven't ordered them yet, but plan to do so this week. The other options for discs are TRW for €135, or A.B.S for €127. I thought the Brembos would be worth the bit extra... any thoughts on this?

True enough but I think most of these are made by TMD
    Ferodo maybe different.
Brembo discs are made by Brembo IIRC.

If money's not an issue but you don't want to pay top price then go with Bosch. Bosch Brake pads are O.E on modern cars such as various German Models and Toyota Avensis.

Freemax are cheap, Mintex cause a lot of dust build up and ABS are way overpriced.

    Bosch all the way!

Brembo make there own discs and actually buy the pads from Ferodo and not pagid as pointed out above. Ferodo discs are Brembo in the box.

Having seen test reports on brake pads, I wouldn't put some of them on a little trike never mind a real car. I would go with Ferodo either the FDB range, which are full OE parts, made on the same production line and some go right for Ferodo boxing some go left for OE fit-ment. The FSL are OE material / spec but not what is put on the car from new.

What did you go with in the end? Changing mine next week for the NCT. I have always just gone with mid range pads and discs. Thought the likes of brembo were only needed for seriously good cars where the breaking power reflects what you put on it
