    Its a bit of a how long is a piece of string question and i know it depends on the person too but ill ask it anyway...

    Which is better for a new graduate going for their first development job in the industry - go for a job in a smaller company or go for a big multinational like IBM, SAP etc?

    I'd go for a large Multinational. They would be more capable and willing to provide support and training to graduates versus a smaller company who may hire on the basis that they need someone with a good working knowledge of the technology stack they use.
