Considering whether to get a normal fan oven or a steam oven. Does anyone have any experience of steam ovens? Are they worth the money?

I would advise you not to buy one. It might make sense if you have a very large kitchen and are going to use it for steaming and steaming only. If you are going to use it for roasting also, think about how dirty the inside of an oven can become. Now when you steam fish/veg the water sits in this and becomes contaminated.

Steaming in a stainless steel steamer on a gas stove is the best in my opinion.

Is highly recommend one. My parents got their kitchen redone a few years ago and my mother is a passionate cook and baker. They got both a stream oven and conventional fan oven installed. VZug and Miele respectively. The stream oven gets used the vast majority of the time with three other oven mainly in times of big meals.

It is vastly superior for bread in particular ad's wonderful for today chicken for example along with fish and most any roasted potato our vegetable type dish.

Not sure what the above poster is on about regarding dirt. If anything they are cleaner and you get less baked on dirt.

    Go for it I'd say

Never used one but fitted a few and all of my customers have been very pleased with them.

Don't forget that you'll probably need to plumb a water supply and a drain to take away the condensate which may limit where you can install it.

I have a regular and a steam oven and as mentioned, some things come out so much better when cooked in the steam oven.....chicken, turkey and that kind of thing have a lovely moistness. Have never done bread in the steam oven though so much check that out. Also, no issues with trying to keep it clean. As another poster said, it's much cleaner than the regular oven.

Water supply wise, mine is not a plumbed type. There's a filler at the front and I just fill it with water from a kettle or jug. If there is any water left at the end (rarely is), I simply pull out a little bung and drain it into a jug.
