    Guys,

Just posted last week on 4x4 forum about changing car for a commercial 5 seat 4x4 however this evening a new option has raised its head and I'm looking for opinions

Directors of company changing some cars next month and have given me the option of a choice of either one of two i30's or a golf all 1.6 diesels all 2012 reg. The i30's would have more mileage up than the golf. All 3 would be high mileage for their year one of the i30's has north of 200km's on clock (over 40,000miles per year).

Golf would have had a more sympathetic driver than the 2 i30's. Hyundai's are better speced but all come with bluetooth, aircon and cruise control.

Decisions decisions what to do. 3rd world problems really.

Any advice on which is likely to be a better pony for the next while. My own mileage somewhere north of 35kms per year all mostly long trips.

    Thanks in advance

The Golf, no questions asked and every day of the week.

Golf will without doubt hold its value better than the i30. I would personally prefer the look of the golf although that's more opinion. If they are all the same price and the golf is lower milleage and better minded you would be mad to take the i30 on that basis alone.

I'm in lucky situation that purchase price or resale doesn't matter here. Cars are company vehicles that they already have. They are upgrading to new yokes and are going to trade in two of the three vehicles they had letting me with my choice of whichever I want to retain as a company car.

    i30 :)

if it's privately owned it'l still have manufacturers warranty until 2017 where as the golfs is expired or expiring very soon.

air-con, bluetooth and cruise control are great extras if you are spending a lot of time at the wheel.

it'l be cheaper to buy than the golf and 200k km's is only 120k miles. you could easily do that again in it. residual value wouldn't worry me, whether it's a golf or an i30, when there's 400k km's on it in 3 years from now, it'l be worth diddly squat regardless.

or you could buy the golf, because it's a golf.

edit: if money isn't a concern, then it depends on whether you want a car with nice seats and no extras (golf) or average seats and a decent few extras (i30).

Ah right from the way it was phrased it sounded like you were buying one. I'd still prefer the golf but some will say the i30 I just don't like the interior of the i30. Can you drive both and decide that way.

other than the warranty, I see no reason to go for the I30 over the golf, golf's hold their value well and are always in demand, also you said she has less mileage on her and was driven more gently...

    Thanks for replies guys.

Will take a spin in both and see. Either way its not a bad decision to have. There dosen't seem to be a whole lot in it from comments above

I did take one of the i30's for a spin a while back. The only thing i noted was that the seat was really low in it. Now it could have been set up that way by the lad that was driving it and as one of my pet hates is lads fiddling with your seat position in the car when they take it for a spin I never move a car seat, unless its impossible to drive the way its currently set up, as you can never seem to get it back the way you had it for some reason.

Will take the Golf for a spin as well. Used to have an early mark iv and then a mark v for about 7 years each from new so the golf is not a new departure for me.

Whichever car you like the most take. Take all for a test drive and see.
Since its a company car , reliability , running costs, servicing and taxing and insurance all go out the window as company will be paying those
