Amazon sending items individually increasing Parcel Motel charges?

    Hi

I recently ordered 4 small items from Amazon and as at least part of the order could only be delivered to the UK I used Parcel Motel. I took care when ordering on Amazon to select 'group my order into as few deliveries as possible' as usually this would mean everything would come in one package and I would only have to make a single €3.95 payment to Parcel Motel.

I then received an email from Amazon containing the following notification: 'We thought you'd like to know that we've dispatched this portion of your order separately to give you a quicker service, at no additional cost to you. The remainder of your order will follow as soon as those items become available'. This was the first of four such emails adding an extra €12 in Parcel Motel charges.

Have any of you encountered this and is there anyway around it?

It has been stated more than once before that Amazon are not reliable for delivery to Parcel motel because they can send the items all seperate if they want. most items are free delivery to Ireland if part of an order worth more than £20/£25 and there are plenty of add on items which will bring a persons total over the free super saver delivery threshold.

Amazon will try to group items in one delivery but because they send items from several different depots around the UK it is not always possible to do this.

Most, but unfortunately not all items qualify for free super saver delivery to Ireland, let alone delivery to Ireland, as in this case.

Amazon have advised me the best way to increase the chances of everything coming together is to order items sold directly by them where possible, and failing that from Amazon marketplace sellers where delivery is fulfilled by Amazon. Unfortunately even if all of the items are direct from Amazon (fulfilled by Amazon aside) they may still come from separate warehouses.

I spoke with Parcel Motel and they explained it has come up before but they have no option to consolidate packages into one as they may arrive in Finglas or Santry etc. I suspect the main reason is they expect a loss in revenue.

Shipito etc in the US consolidate packages and will even remove original packaging to save space. Is there any forwarder offering they same service between Ireland and the UK?

Even this doesn't mean your items will ship together,

Amazon have tonnes of fulfillment centers throughout the UK and Europe, they don't hold stock for every item in every FC and also if stock runs out in one fC they'll ship from a different FC.

So for example imagine you order 10 of the same book, 2 could be in stock in one FC. 5 in another and 3 in another. Or they could all dispatch from the one FC.

It all depends on stock levels and stock availability, Amazon can't really tell you how your order will be broken up and dispatched before you order the items.
