Going for NCT of Friday the back license plate is cracked, will this fail the NCT?
Also where would I go to get a replacement & how long to get one?

I don't know if it'll fail the NCT for a crack, but for about a tenner and the time it takes to put in two screws almost any motor factors will sell you a new plate. It'll save you the hassle and potential garda fine if the plate falls off down the line anyway.

I got one recently from this place in Galway. irishnumberplates.ie

Think I had it delivered the next day.

Make sure the two bulbs on the registration plate are identical. That was a reason mine failed - not that they were not working, but that they were not identical bulbs. I ask you.

How recently? according to NCT manual number plate lights are now just an advisory
Item 61, Registration Plate Lamps, is now a Fail Advisory item.
Failure of this test will not result in overall failure of the vehicle.
The owner/presenter is to be advised of the Fail Advisory item
and urged to have it repaired as soon as possible.

I have a tiny little logo on the bottom of my number plates, the first time I put it through an NCT they snagged it saying I wasn't allowed to have anything like that there. I was discussing it with the guy who failed it and bemoaning the fact that I would have to get two new plates when he suggested i just 'Tippex' out the logo and bring it back in. I did this the next day and it passed. I then wiped off the Tippex (because it looked worse than the logo) and drove it around for a year then 'Tippexed' it out again for the next NCT and not a word was said.
For the next two NCTs I forgot to do this and again not a word was said and the car sailed through each time, last year there was also a crack on the number plate and they never said a word about this either. I don't know whether they've just got sloppy and don't notice these things or just don't worry about them because they're so trivial.
If it was me I'd be just leaving the number plate as it is and see what happens...

They all need their power trips. Wasters, the lot of them.

The other week. It didn't say Fail advisory it just said Fail.
It wasn't the only thing on the list though, which stopped me going mental at them.

Shouldn't have said either for the number plate lights, it should have said "Pass advisory".
