    Hi Everyone,

I just moved to Ireland and need help with cars because I cannot decide.
But before I continue I will tell you a bit of history, I always tuned cars in the past mostly honda and toyota.

Because im getting older I was thinking of getting a volvo but I like tuning so I wanted a tuned volvo but I don't want FWD anymore.

Before I moved I had two cars, Boxster and a MX5, and I loved the MX5 (NA) more.

I am thinking of starting a tuning project again but before I can start I need to choose a base, choices (not in order)

Boxster, just because I can say i have a porsche (audi v8 swap)
Mazda MX5 (NA), because it's light and I love this car (veilside kit + 13B swap or 1.6 turbo), Cabrio
Mazda RX7, no engine swap needed but then I want the veilside kit.
Supra MK4 Targa, downside: not a 2JZ-GTE engine..

Now lets talk about prices, boxster needs to be 2.5 for the v8 swap, which is around: 5000 boxster, 4000 for swap, but then I want a nice kit around it will be 5k exc shipping and painting: grand total: 14000 and I will have 300 hp.

MX5, I want a red 1990-1992 model the 1.6 (because I had this one before), total price including veilside kit and 13B 255hp engine swap: 8k on 1050kg

RX7, import from UK is around 8000-10000 euro + 7000 for veilside kit, grand total: 17000 and I will only have 255hp on 1300 kilo.

Supra MK4 Targa, not a cabrio, no turbo engine, swapping the turbo engine will be around 5000 euro.

S2000, Well i like it but I don't want honda anymore.

On all cars except the MX5 the roadtax is 1800 euro / year, what should I do.. get a "family" car or choose one of my tuning options?

    p.s. I'm 30.

If you were interested in a 300zx I could help find you one :P

But why buy a hairdresser's car (Boxster) when you could buy a porsche with a proper engine?

Because of cabrio and the car prices in Holland :)
The Boxster and Carrera S have the same engine problems so its just the name :)

300ZX was on my list yeaaaars ago but I want cabrio, and its also 3 liters.

Insurance on any of those cars is potentially expensive especially if you don't carry an Irish driving license. Insurance companies also don't like the word modification in any shape or form and will load your premium for the pleasure. You might want to get some insurance prices first before looking at any of these cars.

Unfortunately Ireland is not a very motor friendly country.

the problem is that you need to call every company and I don't feel like doing that, i can convert my dutch license to Irish that was not a problem

You'll still need to call a hell of a lot of companies if you do any of the mods you have proposed.
Best to find a car that was shipped from the factory with a v8 or other proper engine, then you'll have less issue getting insurance.

Well if you want a reasonable premium you have to do some legwork.

so it would be easier to get a car from holland, tune it in holland and then import it?

i ask an insurance here in Ireland, cars older than 15 years you can't insure..
So it's better to get a car from Holland and drive in Ireland with it, only rule for the insurance is that you cannot drive more than 1 year non stop in a different county, which is not the problem because checkup is every 12 months and most of the time you do that 1 month before expire date.

In Ireland the rules are the same, max one year.

You will have to register the car in Ireland though, and pay registration tax. (Unless you've owned the car abroad for a certain period)
