Weight Training for Long Distance Running

    Hi all,

I'm 5 weeks out from my first full marathon and am cutting back on my regular weight training plan. Was just wondering if anyone could recommend good exercises / routines that will compliment the running training and help keep the legs in good condition for the big race.

I've already posted this in the weight training section too and got some good feedback but they advised here would be the best place to look for answers.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

I gave up on weight training, to be honest, but even when I did it regularly I used in the base training phase only and stopped doing it when it got closer to the race. I don't think it's a good idea to do weight training in the last 5 weeks before a marathon.

Why do you think you need to complement running training anyway? The closer you get to the race the more specific your training should be, which in this case means running and not much else.

Consider Hill sprints if you're looking for strength training.
