Bringing car to nct. No log book

I bought a RAV4 2 weeks ago, signed the log book and left it with the previous owner to "post the next day".
Last week when I tried to tax it, I could not do so because it still hadn't been registered in my name. Sure enough when I checked the vehicle exchange enquiry on motortax.ie there were no changes in the last 3 months. I text the boy I bought it off and he replied saying he was taxing his new vehicle "the next day" and he would leave the log book in the tax office to which I replied he needs to post it to the department of transport to which ive recieved no reply.
I'm now in a position where I have my nct this Tuesday and I have no tax or valid nct as it expired in January. I'm now worried my jeep won't be NCT'd on Tuesday because I've no log book and jeep isn't even registered in my name and il risk prosecution if stopped.
I've just checked on motortax again and jeep still has no changed of ownership.
Do I have any other option of making sure I get this situation resolved?.

The car will still be tested. It's hit or miss whether they will ask for the log book, worst case they will still test the car but will not issue the cert until you produce the log book.

they normally just ask for your ID (and the name that is in the system officially)/ if you explain the situation it should be no problem.

I was bringing in my mother's car on Saturday for the test. She announces about two hours beforehand that she can't find the log book, for some reason it wasn't in the folder with all the other stuff relating to the car. I knew from having done my own NCT fairly recently that they may not ask for it, but there was a chance they could. I brought my own VLC hoping they wouldn't ask, but unfortunately they did. I just handed it over and then acted surprised when it was pointed out I had the wrong log book, said must have picked up the wrong one by mistake, sorry about that. They said it wasn't a problem as long as I had brought the right car i.e. the car that was actually booked in for the test. I said yeah it was, and they went ahead and tested it.

Of course it failed, but it's only a visual retest, at least! :D

You could just pretend you forgot.

Bringing any other VLC requires a whole new level of acting:eek:

Well, I did get a nomination in the best supporting actor category for my performance, although I'm not one of the favourites to win..
