Steam and UPC not working?

Is anyone else's steam not compatible with a UPC internet? I used 3g (vodafone) to check if it was a software or steam problem but it worked. I'm not really a computer whiz but I'm 90% sure that it's UPC. Did anyone else have this problem in the past? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I just opened mine, seems to be working fine (two updates installed). I'm on 240Mb UPC.

How long has this been happening for you? I've never had a problem myself. I just downloaded a couple of games there with no problems.

I usually play offline but I'm pretty sure it started when I switched from Eircom to UPC

Mine never seems to log in the first time after startup for some reason, but apart from that no issue with steam and UPC (and tbh I doubt UPC is reason in my case), what problems are you having?

I'm not entirely sure. When I open cmd and see if there is any ping it says that my request has been timed out...
The internet in general works on the computer, I've tried turning off firewalls and opening ports too!

    Thanks for the input though!

Try running tracert 127.0.0.1 (Insert appropriate IP instead of 127.0.0.1) on the address you are pinging, that should at least tell you the point along the way where that the packets are getting dropped, it'll narrow down the starting point for further troubleshooting.

Can you change servers in steam to London or Manchester?

Are you using a new Internet Security suite, like BitDefender, etc?
I had a few issues before where it was a bit over-zealous with it's firewall rules.

Avast has a sandbox mode, so when you open programs they open in a sandbox with their connections, and therefore some functionality, limited (and it's not immediately obvious that Avast is doing it). It happened to me before, can't remember if it was steam that was getting blocked though.

Have UPC at home. No problems so far.

You need to give more information about what is going wrong. At what point do you get a problem? Can you even log in to steam and are there any error messages?

Also on UPC here, no issues with Steam.

UPC user here with no steam issues, use it pretty much everyday without a hitch.

OP, did you solve this issue? Would be interested in knowing what the problem was.
