Missing from housing list

I want to write about my situation shortly. I applied for social housing in 2008 and I was assessed as person of short term housing need and I was put on temporary list. I was receiving rent supplement since then for some period of time and to be on receipt of rent supplement I had to be assessed as person who needs housing. I wasn't claiming rent supplement for some time due to having some work. I had to reapply for social housing again. To my surprise I got to know that I was taken off the temporary housing list early in 2009.And I was assessed as person of housing need and I was put on the list recently in 2014.Now for all the period of early 2009 until last year I was not on the housing list, where I thought I was.I have never received any letter with information that I was taken off completely of the temporary list. Even where for next two years I was still receiving rent supplement based on the assessment.I have written few letters to housing department to qualify me those years that I was off the list, as for all this time I was in need of housing and I am still. Am I right to do so?

I suggest you gather all the documents you have to show that you did apply for social housing back in 2008, and documentary evidence of your housing needs in the years since, and seek an appointment with the staff at your local council.

Did you move around a lot in the years since 2008? If the council wrote to you requesting information and you didn't reply, then you might have been removed from the list if you were on it at one point, and you might have missed a letter if you moved without notifying the council.

Can you say more about the temporary list you were on? I've never heard of a temporary social housing list.

Hello, thank you for your reply, the "temporary list" its how I call it, as I came to conclusion that after being assessed then as, here exact words: in short term housing need and being removed from the list I think it was some sort of "temporary" or short term list. Its just my way of understanding it. I wrote to the department about it and I have made few phone callls but all I heard was they can't do much about it and won't backdate it for me and after that I got final letter stating I was put on the housing list since March last year. I was trying to contact ombudsman office about that as well but ombudsman said thay can't look at my case because its dated back till 2008 and thay can only look at cases no older than one year old. I think its rubbish and I think I was ignored both by the council and ombudsman. I will definitely follow your advice and will try for appointment with their office. I am living at the same address since 2006 so I couldn't skip any letter, have all the same phone number all the time also, so wouldn't skip their call also. Will need to push this matter harder I think.
