Just wondered what opinions were on the strength and also the resistance to rot of an external door made from mahogany compared to oak?

Oak appears to be the more expensive.

I'd go composite as first choice - but if you really want a wooden door then once well maintained either/or, its a personal choice.

You won't get mahogany any more, it'll most likely be sapele or utile, but check to be sure. Teak is good due to its natural oil content, but can be difficult to finish.
