Hey there was thinking about studying computer science next year and was just wondering what the hours are like for the course?

Also what's the workload like and how difficult is the course?

    Thanks

    Hey,

I'm a first year in DT228 at the moment.
The hours are fairly reasonable. Its roughly 26 hours a weeks. Sometimes you get really long breaks though. Like on Thursdays, I have a six hour break between lectures and a lab.

The workload isn't that much (in first year at least).
The only thing is, you tend get all of your assignments around the same time so its easy to let it get on top of you.

The course isn't difficult in first year. Semester one is really easy. In semester 2 you start to cover more interesting topics but it still isn't that difficult.
From what I've been told though, it gets a lot more difficult as soon as you hit second year.

One piece of advice I'd give though:
Don't do this course unless you are sure that you want to do Computer Science.

There's a lot of people that just throw it down on the CAO cause they think it looks cool to mess about with computers all day. Those people are starting to struggle with the course already and they're only in first year.
The course isn't that difficult (again, in first year at least), but if you don't really know what CS is about, you'll struggle with it a lot.

If you are sure you want to study CS, the course is great. Most of the lecturers are excellent and really know their stuff. The lectures are very practical. A lot of your marks are based on assignments and labs which makes the end of term exams much easier.
