SEAT (no, really) dealers sell them as accessories. Dunno how competitive they'd be price wise though

are forward facing seats ok, seams to be contrasting views?

Rear facing are definitely better up till around 2 or 3 if they'll still fit in the seat.

Are you getting a Recaro seat to match your interior ;)

I can move this thread to the newborn and toddlers forum if you wish.

    thanks

My advice is don't spend that much on a car seat. Britax ones or similar in mothercare is smyths are only about 80-110 and offer the same level of saefty

Nonetheless, it's not an area I'd scrimp on tbh. Little tots are fragile enough as it is, god forbid in an accident, I'd want them to be in the best possible seat.

It's not skimping, they all meet the required saefty standards. It's spending wisely. Just because it's expensive doesn't make it better.

So you'd think-but besides meeting very basic European safety standards, the britax adventure car seat I was looking at-bargain in most shops at the minute-is down as a 'don't buy' on the Which? Website because it done so badly in their crash tests!!
Sorry but I'm not willing to take the risk of a cheaper one now!

This is probably the worst advice I've seen on boards.

That's a group 2-3 booster seat, your looking at a group 1 car seat.
Conpare like for like. The groups are to do with the child's age(well weight and size)

?what? I was just making a point that cheap isn't always best. I'm aware of the groups thanks.

Anyway...amazon does seem to be the best value for the Recaro.
it's annoying they're so hard to locate in the shops-to try them in your car first etc...

If you are looking for extended rfing seats the contact incarsafety in Belfast for the best advice. As for all seats being the same, not a hope yes they all have a minimum safety standard, but that's a baseline. The safest seats in general to look at are ones that have passed the Swedish safety tests.
It amazes me that people will spend thousands on a buggy but will spend less than €100 on a car seat. There's a big thread over in newborns and toddlers that has a lot of info on car seats.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,641 ✭✭✭Turbulent Bill

It's far more likely that a child will be injured in a crash due to poor child restraint in the seat (loose straps etc.) or poor seat installation into the car than a 'cheap' seat. I've seen plenty of kids wriggling arms out of straps and wobbling seats.

Tony Kealy's and similar places are good for seats.

Care to explain how it's bad advice ? A price tag is no refecltion of safety, you've made a pretty serious statement without offering any explanation as to why you made it.

Is there any reason that you want recaro? bucket seats?

    http://www.besafe.com/en/child-car-seat-safety-tests/explaining-tests-and-approvals

If you are interested in safety ,check if the seat meets the swedish plus test requirements.

According the earlier .pdf the only recaro listed had actually the worst performance of the lot, 2 stars.

Extended rear facing can be up to 5 times safer than forward facing seats in a crash. Think they is some EU legislation that will make it mandatory to keep children up to 15 months rear facing! not sure if that'll affect here! iSize or something its called! Got mine in Tony Kealys, was a lot more expensive but got it fitted professionally and very happy with the seat we got! :)

There is a whole thread on Newborn and Toddlers about car seats...well worth a look and more advice there.

How does that make me advice the worst you seen, there is no relationship between cost and safety. It actually backs up my point
