Just looking for some advice on spreading a bit of fertiliser.

Situation is that I have a 7 acre field that the ewes are in all winter. I'll be taking them out of it for a couple of months and want a really good flush of grass on it in April/May for the ewes/lambs.

The field is now nearly bare. Was thinking of spreading one big bag of 10.10.20. What would ye lads do? I have a neighbour who will spread it for me.

I'd wait till soil temps come up to around 6C so it will be taken up properly. On averge I get out around the end of March/Start of April. Earlier mild year/later cold ones. Your location sounds like it would probably be a few weeks later compered to my place by the Sea in North Mayo.

Would it be worth getting a soil test done first?

I got two samples done before Christmas and I know now what's missing, whereas I was kinda just guessing before.

The two samples cost €25 (that is, €12.50 each)

The thought of getting around to doing the test is far worse then actually doing it. I borrowed a soil sampler a week ago from the local coop and had the samples taken in a few minutes. It's easy and well worth doing .
