Opel corsa - starting problems

Hello - here is something funny with my car and I do not know what is causing it.

My car is an Opel Corsa, 2000, 1.7 diesel. In general it has no starting problems but...

it would not start if I do not use it for 5-6 consecutive days. It does start smoothly if I use it every third/fourth day, after that I need to jump start it with cables.

the funny thing is if I use the car on short distances, and start/stop it frequently, there is a risk it would not start again, even thought if it was a full day running. If there are very short intervals between starting/driving and stopping, now and again it needs to be jump started.

Why would that be, as I thought I have a battery problem, but however when i drive the battery should get reloaded - so I don't get why ie after a full days ride, when i stop and start quickly after one another, it would not start ? Anyone an idea ?

How old is the battery ? If it's a few years old it is likely the problem

I am not entirely sure but guess the battery is 4 years old. The Battery showed yesterday after driving 12.7 while this morning after a night in the cold 12.48. At what point is the battery considered weak ?

    Fully charged battery is 12.6.
There would be some drain on battery by cars electronic circuits for clock immobiliser alarm etc

if battery is draining because there is a fault in radio or door switch it may take days to drain it enough so car can't be started
but also a battery that is old doesn't hold its charge over a period of time.

To test a battery it needs to be tested under load to ensure it has enough amps to turn over engine. most places selling batteries will have this type of equipment

The only other way you can test battery with multimeter is fully charged leave it stand for 24 hrs with nothing connected and read voltage it should still read 12.6.

I advise bring car to a garage selling batteries and ask them to test battery

Check what voltage the battery drops to when it is cranking cold.

thanks all, i will leave the car on its spot and measure again tomorrow. I was not entirely sure if the start problems are solely due to the battery or if there may be something else. In case it is a battery problem I intend to get one and change it myself but that is how far my knowledge goes.. if there would be anything else ie glow plugs, I would not be able to determine/fix the issue.
