Mechanic to check out car?

    Hi all

I've never bought privately before but I know many people do this all the time and it works out fine for them. So I'm thinking of doing it.

One of the main points of advice I've been given is to have a mechanic check out the car first. I don't know one myself, but presumably there are mechanics that will do this for a (hopefully) small fee? I'm in the North Kildare region so would be looking to buy in Kildare, Dublin or surrounds.

Can anyone give me a lead on this? And any other advice you have would be very welcome too.

    Thanks,
    Dave
