A mate's flash drive with a lot of work on it now doesn't open on PCs, instead up pops a box saying it isn't formatted and does he want to do it now.

He's distraught as the files are the only copies that he has.

Is he up merde creek without the proverbial?

i had the same problem with a 16gig sdcard ,
ie i put in usb card unit,
it says Do you wish to format this drive.
i used Recuva to get back 95 per cent of the files .
ITS likely the files are still there ,
but the pc sees a drive that needs to be formatted.

    see https://www.piriform.com/recuva

    its free .

    This happened to me twice,

    on 2 sdcards,

    Note ,

i had to do a Quick format first to get recuva to see the files
    on the card .

NOTE, IF YOU CHOOSE to do a quick format ,
you have to tick the quick format box,
otherwise windows will just do a full drive format,
    which will ERASE the files.
HE, S trying to recover .
