Should there be an official Six Nations rugby thread on AH?

The majority of Irish people only really watch the 6 nations. The Rugby forum can be an intimidating place for them as they don't know the players names or even the rules of the game. I think a thread in here would be ideal for those who want to discuss one of the most iconic sporting events in the world.

Who are Ireland playing and what time is kick off?

We had a super bowl thread for casuals why not a 6 nations one? I would like to discuss it but I don't know much about the rules or the words to Ireland's Call. I'm sure many are in the same boat as myself.

    Thanks

Probably not, rugby threads on AH generally end up going down the routes of "rubbish minority sport that wastes our tv license fee" or "Its not really an Irish team when you have British subjects in the side" ...not to mention Ireland's Call getting hammered at every opportunity... ....nope, its going to end badly OP, but at least you tried.

    That's disappointing to hear.

Seriously though Ireland's Call is dreadful. A bit of riverdance on the halfway line or anything would be preferable.

Hi a poster pointed out that these threads get closed because people make fun of Ireland's Call. We should do everything to avoid that happening. The thread is for people to discuss the event in a casual manner without feeling intimidated.
    Thanks

It's only 3 hours to kick off. The excitement is building..

Is this a test? This thread is for casual fans not those who remember scores and stats.

    Thanks

No, I find Rugby fans to be very snobby in general, in particular to other sports that are not as physical. It's really annoying, you people know who you are.

IRB did a study following the 2011 RWC and worked out that the time waiting at scrum time combined with that time when kicks at goal are being taken exceeds the time the ball is actually in play by a little more than three minutes. Snooze fest.

    Snooze fest?????

Have you ever been to a rugby match?

Its far from snoozing you'd be doing.

I find it difficult to get a ticket for the 6 nations. What happens at these matches?

It's really the newer fans that are like that. The ones who grew up playing the game and watching AIL matches are great.

    The real fans like.

Indeed I have. The amount of dead time is unreal. Huge amounts wasted waiting for kicks, lineouts and scrums. In an average rugby game the ball is in play for only 35 minutes of the 80. Snooze fest.

They're big lumbering hulks mostly, not really built for constant running. All about the tactics.
Rugby League is much more flowing though I think.

Going to my first 6 nations match next week. Really looking forward to it.

Love the 6 nations. The atmosphere in the pubs near the stadium is always great.

Depends where you're sitting really, higher up in the stands you'll probably be offered a toffee by some posh kid.

Closer to the pitch you're going to end up beside some yahoo shouting 'come on, Munster!' at every scrum.

You'll generally find the newer fan hanging around the bars or not looking at the pitch dotted around the ground.

Friendly enough, mostly clueless and arrogant, and almost always a Leinster fan.

Is Dublin divided on a matches? Do Northsiders secretly hope Ireland get beat?

    I the 6 Nations.

OP there's a thread here where you can ask about rules/laws.

Not long until kick off now.

Looking forward to this one. Will be interesting to see if Henshaw and Payne can poke a few holes in the Italy line. Murray man of the match 12/1 with Paddy Power worth a punt. With Sexton out Murray will run the show.

Sean O'Brien just pulled out with a hamstring too. Not good. Tommy O'Donnell will come into the starting team then.

Hi, you seem to know a lot. This thread is for very casual fans who don't know the names of the players. You may find the official thread in the Rugby forum more suitable.

    Thanks
