Which Oil Filter?

Does anyone know if there's a site where I can enter my engine number and they give me the exact oil filter that I need?

At the moment I have entered my reg plate and there's 3 or 4 different types for my vehicle, and I'm not sure which one to get, so if I could find somewhere where I can enter the engine number that'd be great, thanks.

Is it giving you 3 or 4 completely different filters or just 4 different brands of the same correct filter?

Why don't you ring up the service department in a dealers and ask?
I would buy filters from dealer,as not much price difference between them and online

    Different type/style filters altogether.

Is it an English import or Irish car? Perhaps try the English reg if was an import. Can be found on the log book.

It's an English import. I rang main dealer, they aren't sure if it takes a UFI filter or Purflux filter..

What car is it? If there is still a choice from the dealer, it might be on the oil filter cap/ housing . Do you have any old service receipts for the car? The part number for the oil filter should be on them!

Just buy it off them. They can surely older the correct part themselves, just might not know who the manufacturer is

Presumably it's a petrol Peugeot or something that can have either filter.

Go to a local factors. Tell them that you want to buy both types and you'll return whichever one you don't use.

I always buy genuine oil filters (and aftermarket everything else).

The dealer should be able to find it with the VIN. If not, try a different dealer.

Is this is a Fiat? Youll have to take it off and check, or at least get a look at it. Take a picture if you can.

If its a Fiat , then EPer (fiat system) will show up both options on the system as being right.

That is frankly amazing to me.
Surely the factory should know what ancillaries were fitted to certain production runs.

It would help us help you if we knew the car, engine and year

Theres loads of discrepancies tbh. Vans especially. You'd often have to check things like rear doors etc with customers. because itll give you the option for tailgate, double doors etc. That's without getting in to stuff thats been through a coachbuilders since it left the factory like campers.

Smaller things too like the indicators on the wing mirrors on a Ducato, theres clear and orange. You need to know which one you want because the system will give you the option of both even with the reg and chassis in.

"Is it a JT or a VN...."

Just one example of a car with so many different parts suppliers and fittings in its 6 year lifespan, get it wrong at your peril.... Plenty more like it ;)

It's a 2009 Opel Combo 1.3 cdti 2000. I gave the engine model (Z13 DTJ) and VIN to main dealer, he initially gave me a price on a UFI filter, when I questioned this he said "oops, you're right, these vans could take either filter" and he wasn't sure which one!

Anyways I just took a chance and bought the UFi one from Micksgarage for a tenner.

I had a 08 astra with that engine and never had an issue with oil filters I always just went in to my local Opel dealer gave them the reg and they handed me the filter it cost less than a tenner too. Although maybe it was simpler with the astra. Just make sure that if your servicing it do it during opening hours or Saturday morning so that if it's wrong you can go to local motor factors and get the right one. Not much good having the oil drained and discover the filter is wrong on a Sunday if your stuck for the van on monday.
