I recently purchased a property its a semi detached house and has 5 rads upstairs and 3 downstairs. it is fitted with a back boiler fire and i recently fitted a henley porto fire door to improve output of back boiler. initially when we moved in the need for fire wasnt necessary but as the evenings grew colder we started lighting the fire and very quickly noticed that the rate that the rads heated up was very slow. I looked into balancing the rads but it seemed to very little a friend of mine whom is a plumber has hinted towards a blockage, we located to the rad first on the system and opened the valves fully it heated up very warm, pump was on at the time, we then shut down that rad and the heat moved to the next rad again heating up very warm, after shutting that rad down the heat moved no further. i opened a number of other rads up fully but found it moved to none of them. it was at this point he suggested that there could be sludge blockage int the underfloor piping or rads. anyone have any opinions or other things i could try help would be appreciated as house is cold and have no money for plumbers.

If your friend is a plumber and he couldn't sort it I don't think we will here. I'd say your only option is a powerflush
