Magic mushrooms and paypal.

Just wondered if you think paypal would side for or against me in this case?

Last November I ordered two mushroom growkits and two magic mushroom spore syringes from a website called UKmushroomsupplies. (I live in the UK). As a legal disclaimer, they say on the website that the spores are only "for microscopy use," in other words it's legal to buy them to look at under a microscope but not legal to actually grow them. However of course people buy them to grow, not to look at under a microscope.

So I inoculate the two growkits with the two syringes of spores. It says in the insctructions that after inoculating the kits with spores (they say oyster mushroom spores in the instructions since oyster mushrooms are legal to grow) it takes 2-3 weeks for the kits to colonise with fungus and then another 2-3 weeks to get mushrooms. I emailed the seller to check I was doing everything right and the email conversation clearly shows he knows I was using the magic mushrooms spores to grow. He was advising me on it.

Well, after 3 months I've got one colonised but contaminated kit and one kit that hasn't even colonised. I've complained and he's offered me replacement kits but I can't be bothered with this hassle any more, I want a refund but he won't agree to that. I paid for this stuff through paypal. But if I open a case and he says "Well these spores were just for microscopy use," who will paypal side with?

The person not breaking the law I'd guess.

The seller. As will your bank if you try a chargeback.

Buyer protection only last 45 days for ebay, I assume this is also the case on other sites?

I'm surprised paypal deal with a shop like this. I would be very wary about formally telling paypal that you were doing illegal activities. It would be like me complaining that the bomb I made from parts I got online did not work. Or the crystal meth I made was not great.

Closing this due the questionable legality of it.
