Motor Tax - Car off road since September

I've been very lazy and stupid by not declaring my car off the road. It's been engineless and stuck in the back of a garage since the end of September.

The motor tax was due at the end of November.

I realize I should have known better and declared it off the road way back then as it might be a mess to sort out now.

What's my best option to end the motor tax on this car entirely?

The only option I see on the motor tax website is to pay three months (on top of the arrears since November?) and then declare it off the road. Any way to just end the motor tax, this car won't see the road ever again and hasn't been driven since the tax expired. (Needs new engine, not worth much and I will be leaving the country in a few months).

Why pay motor tax if the car is never going to see the road again?

    I agree :)

Is that possible? What should I do? (besides just ignoring these motor tax reminder letters)

The car wasn't scrapped, so I don't have a certificate of destruction or anything.

You don't have to do anything so long as it remains off the road (that includes parked). If you want rid of it then either sell it/give it away (transfer ownership) or scrap it at an ATF.

i'm in the same situation since my car was damaged in a crash . crash was in january and tax was due in jan. the lady in tax office said to "sell" the car to a friend and then for them to sell it back later.

stupid system. i would have declared it off the road in advance, but i wasnt told that someone was going to run into the back of me.

In their FAQs after the declaring off the road system changed , they said if the car or tractor wont be used on the road again, do nothing.
If you are thinking of putting it back on the road just change ownership and change it back.

Tax was due by the first of Jan I take it rather than "in" Jan? Is it going back on the road anytime soon? (ie this month)...in which case you should tax it as you did use it in Jan and will in Feb. If it's of the road long term,I'd do nothing until it is going back on the road and then sell it to brother /Father/partner as the tax office lady said, perfectly legal
