Nice to see where our government are spending the Motor Tax.
Senior officials from the Department of Environment, including secretary general of the department, John McCarthy, were before the Public Accounts Committee yesterday.

During the officials’ appearance, the matter of motor tax being used to fund Irish Water was addressed and it was confirmed that €439million of local government funds was paid to Irish Water last year – two-thirds of which came from motor tax.

This year Irish Water is expected to get €399million and next year, €479million.]
    http://www.broadsheet.ie/2015/02/06/paid-on-the-treble/

    2014- €439m
    2015-€399m
    2016-€479m

That's approx €1.3 billion of money from Motor Tax gone into Irish Water, for which we're being asked to pay for on the double.

More potholes than ever are on the way if the government is using the bulk of motor tax in this way.

    Misleading thread title.

..and it was confirmed that €439million of local government funds was paid to Irish Water last year – two-thirds of which came from motor tax.

Motor tax brings in about €1.3 Billion per year.

Outrageous!!, Instead of spending tax revenue on water, they should just magic the water into existence like they have in the past!

That's why they changed the name from road tax.

We already pay for water. No argument as its a double payment.

Also property tax was brought in to fund local authorities.

    Joke of a country.

Tax revenue that should be allocated to services related to the charge itself. This idea of a centralised fund is total nonsense. I can't see how anyone can dispute that.

Let's pump millions of euro into a quango created by Fine Gael who promised to cut back drastically on quangos. .... makes perfect sense. ...

This has nothing to do with motors....might i suggest having a look in the politics forums to discuss there.
