Teaser for Baz Luhrmann's Netflix Original Series.
The one-hour, 13-episode series is due to air in 2016 and will follow the lives of a group of South Bronx teenagers in 1970s New York City.

Described as "a mythic saga of how New York at the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to hip-hop, punk and disco", the Sony Pictures Television show takes in Bronx tenements, the SoHo art scene, CBGB, Studio 54 and the just-built World Trade Centre.

I seen an add for this today. I'll be keeping a eye out for it. It's a pity it's not out until 2016 though.

The Get Down To Take Production Hiatus
Baz Luhrmann’s music-driven Netflix series The Get Down will take a short break to catch up on scripts. The drama, from Sony Pictures TV, is currently filming Episode 4 in New York. After the episode wraps on Thursday, the show will take a previously unscheduled break, during which there will be writing work done on future episodes.

I know, right? Hope the series has a bit more depth than those over stylised set pieces suggest.

Haven't watched any of it yet but I noticed it dropped from near 5 stars on Netflix to about 2. Bad sign?

I've really tried to like this, on episode 4, and I think I'm out. Find a lot of the acting bad, and there isn't half as much rap/hip hop in it that I thought there'd be.

Watched the first episode and loved it and kind of wish it was self contained in just that episode. It almost could be. I didn't even notice Jayden smith till the credits which a good thing cos I think the child is a horror. But I'll keep watching. It had all the right elements to make a great long episode but I'm thinking it unlikely it can sustain it but let's see.

Actually started it a couple nights ago myself. Watched two so far.
It's good but I really don't like the theatrical side of it, seems like it's trying to be a musical in parts but I'd prefer it as a regular drama. Heading for a 3/5 so far.

Well it's Baz Luhrman behind it. I like the Musial aspect of it. It lightens it in the right places for me.

I just finished it and while it took me awhile to get into it I loved it by the end. Very different kind of show.

Yeah I finished it last night too. Really loved it. Definitely one to watch again.

Just finished the initial 6 episodes. It's absolutely class especially from episode 3 onwards. I literally can't wait for next instalment in 2017

You know what is the most interesting thing about this?

Jaden Smith isn't the worst thing about it. Nor is he actually bad at all. Love the soundtrack, love the style, the Luhrman style-- thoroughly enjoying it.

I liked parts of it but I thought it got more cheesey and a bit cringey from episode 4.
Personally would've enjoyed it more if it was a little more serious.
Only other Baz Lurman stuff I've watched was Australia and I didn't like it either.

Some great use of old footage, a genre that interests me but I came away thinking that I've wasted 6+ hours on something that could / should have been condensed into a movie. Found it very "disney" at times and while I didn't zone out, the happy ending did indeed make me happy.

Absolutely brilliant show. Devastated that it has been axed. Devastated by the ending too.

I can't understand why this show had a low viewership. The production quality was impeccable and the writing, brilliant. It's very rare for me to be consumed by a tv show, but I'm glued to this one. I've seen the whole series three times and it never gets old.

    I'm with you.

Particularly confusing as Netflix doesn't seem to care about ratings/viewership figures in general. Lack of commitment by Luhrmann due to disappointing feedback might be the reason?

I follow Luhrmann on Instagram and he doesn't come across as uncommitted to it at all. He's constantly posting about it and fans are using a #renewthegetdown tag,

Given the high production on it, maybe it's just too expensive for Netflix to continue to make it to the high standard? Just a guess btw, I haven't a clue really!
