Having a problem with a mixer shower. Don't know the make or model. Hot water is pressurised and cold is tank fed. It's worked fine for 12 years but now when its turned on it works for about 2 mins then stops completely. Only when it's turned off and back on again will it start. Any ideas?

If you take off the shower will the hot and cold run free.

    Is it thermostatic?

The shower is thermostatic and built into a concrete wall

I've done nothing with it yet. I'm not used to fixing showers to be honest and I don't want to go messing with this too much before I understand what's wrong with it as it's their only shower

Maybe the capacitor on the pump pressurising the hot.
Am surprised at the setup because if the hot pressure exceeds the cold pressure you might be shoving hot water upstairs :)
All this above my pay grade but I do have a fully pressurised system and the capacitor went, giving the symptoms u described

You mean the capacitor in the pump? If so I checked the hot taps and they were fine when the shower had stopped

Yes thats what I meant, are u certain hot is pumped and cold is gravity?

Anyway when mine started doing what you describe it was the capacitor on the pump that was at fault
    .

Cn you describe the setup a bit more, is it a 230V pump or a 12/24V rig via a transformer for the hot

It's a combi boiler. Cold is definitely tank fed. A 3 bar Grunfos mq pumps the water for the hot. I do agree, it seems odd they didn't pressurise the cold
